Web Services
Welcome to Web Services
The Public Affairs Office and the Technology Department work together to provide information to the public about The Knox County Schools. Individual schools also maintain websites where more detailed information can be found about programs and activities at the school. Please see the list of school websites to visit individual school sites.
KCS Web Services is part of the Public Affairs Department and is responsible for developing content on the district website. Individual departments (for example, Language Arts, Math, Music, ESL, etc.), provide information for parents, students, and the community on portions of the district devoted to that subject area.
The Knox County Schools website is really a group of dozens of individual sites connected by a common look and feel. Throughout the website(s), users will find navigational links across the top of each page that a common to all KCS pages. These links are "District", "Parent Services", "Online Services", and "Subscriptions".
The vertical links at the left of each page will change as the user navigates among the sites. For example, when navigating from the district site to a school site, the left navigational links will reflect the choices of the school. The four categories across the top (see table above) remain available, however, even on the school site.
Each of the more than 90 plus sites may have group sites within this structure. Groups can be Departments, Classrooms, Student Activities, Athletic Teams, Community Groups, Faculty/Staff, or Alumni groups. KCS Groups have their own sub-site where several communication features are available to the group's members. Navigation across the top and left side of the bigger site (district, school) does not change but is wrapped around the group site.
What is the advantage of this structure?
The goal of Knox County Schools is, of course, to educate our children. A huge part of this educational process involves being able to communicate all across the educational community. The rich features of the KCS site and groups allow members of our community (parents, teachers and students) to join various groups to receive automatic updates of postings, and much, much more.
At the most important level - your student's classroom - or teachers have about a dozen tools to communicate with your student and you. These tools range from simple postings on the classroom site to rich, interactive blogs where students can share ideas 24 hours a day. Visit your child's teacher classroom group today and every day to follow assignments, events, and resources.
At the department level, sharing the responsibility for web content assures that the best, most uptodate, authoritative information is a click away. Supervisors of each academic department share resources and curriculum with parents and students.
We hope you enjoy the many services provided by the Knox County Website and appreciate the time, energy, effort, and dedication that literally hundreds of individuals give to make the site a communication tool to educate, to assure "Excellence for All Children."
*KCS Intranet - a network for KCS Employees only, requiring password access. Members must be an employee of Knox County Schools.
